Pipette tips on the market are basically made of polypropylene plastic (a colorless, transparent plastic that is highly chemically inert and has a wide temperature range for use). However, the same polypropylene can vary greatly in quality: high-quality tips are generally made of natural polypropylene, while cheap tips are most likely made of recycled polypropylene plastic (in which case we can only say that its main ingredient is polypropylene).
In addition, most of the tips in the manufacturing process will also add a small amount of additives, the more common additives are:
1, color-developing materials. Market commonly known as blue tips (1000ul) and yellow tips (200ul), is added to the polypropylene in the corresponding color-developing materials (as a user, then certainly hope that high-quality masterbatch, rather than cheap industrial pigments); 2, the release agent. Mainly used to help the tip in the mold after the rapid detachment. In this case, the more additives there are, the higher the probability that unwanted chemical reactions may occur during pipetting. So the insurance is no additives. But also due to the high demands on the production process, pipette tips with no additives at all are really rare on the market, so we, the users, can only try to choose pipette tips with as few additives as possible when selecting them.
