The pipette tip structures include the following five types:
Extended length tips: Used for liquid aspiration from containers such as volumetric flasks.
Wide bore tips: The tip opening is larger than normal, mainly used for transferring macromolecular solutions such as proteins.
Gel loading tips: Also called spotting tips; the tip end is either flat or very fine, primarily used for electrophoresis experiments.
Low retention tips: The inner wall of the tip is specially treated to reduce surface adsorption, used for transferring viscous liquids.
Positive displacement tips: Mainly used with specialized pipettes such as positive displacement pipettes and continuous dispensers.
