The most important purpose of using filtered tips is to prevent cross‑contamination. During pipetting, there is a risk of back‑aspiration of liquid. Therefore, when using the same pipette to transfer different samples or reagents, filtered tips are necessary to avoid cross‑contamination – a point that must be carefully observed especially in COVID‑19 diagnostics.

Filters are machine‑loaded to ensure that the tips are not damaged during manufacturing and packaging. They have been verified to be free of RNase, DNase, DNA, and pyrogen contamination. Furthermore, all filtered tips are pre‑sterilized by irradiation after packaging, preventing the risk of biological sample contamination associated with bulk tips and avoiding damage to the filter that can occur with autoclaving.
